A group of Russian scientists at the invitation of the Dalai Lama arrived in Delhi to participate in the dialogue “Nature of Consciousness”. And on the first day much has been discussed!
The main issues of the discussion between His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Buddhist monks and Russian scholars were the most difficult and at the same time the most simple in formulation problems:
1. The difference between mind and consciousness,
2. Relationship of emotions with consciousness.
3. The nexus of the brain and consciousness.
4. The influence of language on the consciousness.
5. Free of will.
6. Mental causation.
7. Personal identity.
The Dalai Lama and the monks showed a profound knowledge of the subject, appealing to various studies, as well as to cases of various pathologies of the brain.
In the first half of the day, such eminent Russian scientists as Anokhin, Aleksandrov, and Chernigivskaya made presentations. In the afternoon, an open discussion took place.
