Truth as One and Many. Scientific seminar of the Center for Consciousness Studies

10 January, 2022

All sciences seek the truth. But only philosophy is trying to find out the answer to the question of what truth is in itself, by its nature. In other words, philosophers are looking for an answer to the survey "What is truth?". This question binds ontology and the theory of cognition together, since to answer it, it is necessary to point out the essence of truth and provide criteria by which we will distinguish true judgments from false ones.

The last major attempt to understand this problem was made by Michael Lynch, author of the book "Truth as One and Many". The last seminar of the Moscow Center for Consciousness Studies in 2018 is dedicated to it. Lynch is trying to create a synthetic theory of truth, taking into account the achievements of classical approaches (correspondent, coherent and pragmatic) and deflationism, the most popular of modern approaches to truth.

Keynote speakers: E. Loginov (Ph.D., MSU) and A. Mertsalov (MCCS).

The seminar was also attended by: Ph.D. O.Cherkashina, Ph.D. A.Besedin, Ph.D. A.Yunusov, Ph.D.A. Ktsznetsov, Ph.D. V.Vasiliev, students and postgraduates of the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University.
